| Location: South Africa » North West » Zeerust Situated on the banks of the Klein Marico River, the town's history dates back to 1864 where Jasper Coetzee, the owner of the farm Hazenjacht, commissioned Walter Seymore to build a church on the farm. When he died, his brother in law completed building the church and laid out a town which he called Coetzee-Rust. The name was later abbreviated to Zeerust Close to the quaint, yet rapidly developing town of Zeerust lies the Kaditswene Ruins – the remains of the largest Iron Age stone built city in the southern Africa – in 1820 this city was larger than Cape Town. It was the manufacturing, trading and cultural capital of the Bahurutshe from before 1600 to 1823. The main economic activities include the production of maize, wheat, vegetables, fruit and the mining of andalusite, lead, fluorspar and chrome. The area also has numerous privately owned game and hunting farms.
